7 Different Types Of Chihuahua

Despite the fact that the Chihuahua has one official breed, there are several distinct types. Each type is distinguished by its coat, shape, and defining characteristics. Some of the most common types are the Long Haired, Teacup, Micro, and Miniature varieties.

Deer-head Chihuahuas differ slightly in their head shape. Their muzzles are narrower and their noses are longer. They are more elongated in body shape than the apple-head variety. There is no official breed standard for the deer-head Chihuahua, but these dogs do exist.

Long-haired Chihuahuas have a long, silky coat that is slightly wavy, but never curly. They may not have an undercoat, which can make their coats softer. Their hair may be longer in the ears and on the neck and tail. They may also have hair on their thighs. Unlike the short-haired variety, the long-haired variety sheds the least, but still needs regular brushing and bathing.

Apple-headed Chihuahuas do not shed much, but they do need daily walks to keep clean. Their eyes are elongated and may also be smaller. However, these chihuahuas are prone to hydrocephalus, a condition in which too much water builds up on the brain.

Chihuahuas are known for their friendly dispositions and loyalty. As such, they should be socialized from a young age. They can also be aloof around strangers and bark excessively.
